Recent paintings have been inspired by living and working in North Staffordshire. The designs of Wedgwood, Burleigh and Wetherby's ceramics reflect the heart and heritage of the area and these have influenced my paintings.
This work is a direct response to ceramic design. I apply circular lithographs normally associated with plates on to canvas, painting on top of the original images. Surfaces are then built using varnishes to create a crackle effect.
Questions around the mass produced vs. the one off are raised. The paintings are reminiscent of ceramic plate designs and classic paintings, bringing the two histories together.
