The arches, doorways and walls at Spode and
AirSpace are steeped in history, echoing with past conversations,
whispers from the past journey to the present, bringing the
historical and the contemporary together.
In Blue Arch Joyce continues to explore the use of colour,
architectural shape and scale. The blue pigment within the work
relates to ‘Blue China’ produced in the local area, and more
specifically, at Spode (home of the BCB). She investigates the use
of traditional and unconventional materials such as pigment, spit,
clay, cement and paint to leave a trace of materials and process
of painting.
Joyce’s interests include colour, texture, scale, pigment,
heritage, contemporary, metaphor, trace and transience.
