Inspired by the intricate weave and interesting pattern of Irish linen damask tablecloths and patchwork quilts passed on to me by my mother, materials have become shared memories. Occasions such as christenings, weddings and funerals are preserved in my work. I have also studied quilts from the Ulster folk and Transport Museum in Belfast.
Executing the traditional fine art method of painting on both canvas and Irish linen damask, horizontal and vertical stripes impose purposeful borders and boundaries on the same area. Soft, seductive impasto edges against exquisite textile surfaces appear on one area.
